CD Design Case Study: Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens
The Challenge
Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens needed a dynamic, interactive, educational cd rom to distribute to teachers. The educational cd rom needed to provide teachers with biographical information about George Washington and the context of his times, as well as lesson plans, activity sheets, teaching tools and resources. They approached Charlotte’s Web Studios for help to not only design, develop, and program the interactive cd rom, but also to graphically design the packaging materials and to print and replicate the cds for distribution.
The CWS Solution
Charlotte’s Web Studios worked closely with the Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens staff to create an attractive, user friendly, information packed interactive cd rom application. Using an historical color pallet and imagery, the CWS cd design solution included an animated introduction, design and creation of the cd rom graphical user interface, programming to show and distribute various teaching tools ( pdfs, powerpoint presentations, and images), and creating links to numerous online resources and websites. The cd was created in and programmed using Adobe Director.
CWS not only designed the interactive graphical user interface, but also all of the printed materials. CWS also printed, replicated, and shrinkwrapped the final product for distribution by Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens. The cd rom was offset printed in four color and inserted into a four color, 2 panel cardboard sleeve and shrinkwrapped.
